Preschool children, Birth-Age 5

Mission Friends® is the WMU preschool missions organization for babies through kindergarten. Mission Friends seeks to engage preschoolers in missions awareness and involvement. Preschoolers also begin to understand the missions concepts of praying, giving, and doing missions and that everyone in the world needs to know about God’s love.

The objectives for Missions Friends are the same as the church WMU objectives to the extent that they are appropriate for preschoolers: pray for missions, engage in missions, learn about missions, support missions, develop spiritually toward a missions lifestyle, and participate in the work of the church and denomination.

Mission Friends can meet anytime or anywhere, provided there is a caregiver present. The number of Mission Friends classes will depend on the leadership of the church and the number of preschoolers in the church.

Additional information can be found on the national Mission Friends website.

Families on Mission is a part of Mission Friends. Each month in Mission Friends Leader, you will find one page devoted to Families on Mission. In addition to that page, you can also find ideas for Families on Mission each month on this calendar. Please click here for more ideas.

Girls, Grades 1-6

WMU® believes that it is never too soon to get involved in missions. That is why we offer a variety of ways to involve children in missions through missions education. This age-level group tells stories of how God is working in the world today and teaches girls that they have a purpose in God’s plan. As girls engage in relevant curriculum they will begin to develop a biblical worldview and global perspective.

Involve your Girls in Action

Girls in Action® (GA®) is the missions group of WMU for girls ages 6-11 or grades 1-6. This group is guided by the objectives of WMU as girls learn about missions, pray for missions, give to missions, and do missions. They will develop a lifestyle of missions as they participate in the church and denomination. GA also serves as an opportunity for girls to develop leadership skills and engage in missions. Through learning experiences that teach the biblical basis of missions, international missions, North American missions, historical and contemporary missions, girls experience holistic discipleship which challenges them to be on mission in their home, school, and community.

Girls in Action is designed to meet weekly. In addition to learning about missions, girls will be able to learn how to apply the Bible to their lives, learn how to pray and intercede for others, and have a role model in their GA leader. Scripture memory is also a part of Girls in Action. Curriculum for GAs can be ordered here.

Women, ages 18+

Why be involved?

Women on Mission® is a missions discipleship group. The characteristics of a missions disciple are:

  • Pray for missions

  • Support missions

  • Learn about missions

  • Do missions and tell about Jesus

Members of Women on Mission are equipped to follow Christ’s command to “go and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matthew 28:18-20) Women on Mission use their skills, interests, and spiritual gifts in their everyday life to tell others about Jesus. For example, a group that loves to garden may teach gardening skills to intercity (or low income) children and help them raise vegetables for their families. Flower gardeners can provide flowers for those in nursing homes or for the teachers at a local school to say, "Thank You."  Some groups have found that using sewing skills can be beneficial as they make stuffed animals for children in need or those facing a difficult time. Bible study, prayer, and finding out about God’s mission here and around the world will broaden your view of opportunities to share God’s love. Use or learn skills to share God’s love with those in need. Women on Mission offers many possibilities.

What resources do you need for Women on Mission

Missions Mosaic is your resource for hands-on missions projects, a devotional and prayer emphasis for missions and missionaries, missionary stories, Bible study and how to be a missions disciple.
